16 human rights organizations and institutions have signed a statement that calls the Saudi government to commit to its pledges that made to the Human Rights Council of the United Nations.
The statement condemned the death penalty since it’s systematically targeted Al-Nimer for his defense of human rightsand revealing of abuses in the kingdom. The statementthat was issued on Tuesday confirmed that the death penalty, which was issued on 15 October 2014,against the opponent Sheikh Nimr Al-Nimr violates Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rightsthat states (everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person).
And in regard to the health condition of Sheikh Nimr, the statement explained that there is still a bullet in his right thigh since his arrest in July 2012. The statement concluded that the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabianeed to take into account its membershipin the Human Rights Council and that the death penalty is a serious conflict with the its voluntary commitments.
