The European Union has expressed concern over the ongoing and escalating number of violations in a number of countries around the world, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Croatian representative, Ms. Vesna Batistić Kos, delivered the EU’s statement at the Human Rights Council, under Item 4 of the 43rd session. The statement noted concern for the continued detention of women activists and human rights advocates and religious leaders.
In September 2017, May 2018, and April 2019, Saudi Arabia launched numerous arrest campaigns targeting activists, clerics, and women human rights advocates. Most of the detainees remain in prisons, some of them without trials and others subjected to unfair trials.
