Luxembourg's ambassador to the Human Rights Council, Mark Bechler, said that suppression of freedom of expression, association and assembly of activists is increasing in Saudi Arabia.
In his speech during the discussions of the second item of the work of the 49th session of the Council on March 8, 2022 Pichler indicated that the restriction of civil and political rights was accompanied by reprisals and illegal arrests of activists and journalists.
Saudi Arabia is arresting many activists, and it is still one of the most prominent countries that prevent freedom of the press and media and practice widespread violations against journalists.
