Switzerland has expressed serious concern about the high levels of executions in Saudi Arabia.
During discussions at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, Swiss delegate Mr. Michael Meier called on Saudi Arabia to abide by international law regarding the death penalty and to suspend its application with a view to abolishing it.
Saudi Arabia set a record number of executions in 2024, carrying out 345 sentences, while others, including minors, protesters and individuals not facing the most serious charges, are still at risk of being killed.
