Who We Are:

The European Saudi Organization for Human Rights is an independent civil institution concerned with human rights in Saudi Arabia. It consists of a group of activists, human rights defenders, and researchers. It aspires to promote justice in Saudi Arabia and uphold human dignity.

Establishment:

The organization was founded in August 2013 as a result of the expansion of violations and their increasing severity, including the tightening grip on civil society and the systematic targeting of its activists and organizations.

Due to severe repression within the country, the founders were compelled to declare its establishment from outside the country, from the Federal Republic of Germany. It is currently headquartered in Berlin, aiming to be a voice for the victims of enforced disappearances in Saudi Arabia, including victims of arbitrary detention, execution, extrajudicial killing, torture, enforced disappearance, discrimination, as well as victims of statelessness. All these victims and others have rights that are inviolable and not subject to compromise in any form.

Objectives:

The European Saudi Organization for Human Rights aims to improve the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia. To achieve this goal, it works on documenting cases of victims and advocating for them through all available means. It also aims to raise awareness about human rights within the country and to disseminate information about violations through various available channels, both domestically and internationally. Additionally, the organization is concerned with highlighting the presence of victims or their families in various events.

Activities:

The European Saudi Organization for Human Rights utilizes available mechanisms to advocate for human rights. It seeks to find the most effective means to confront repression and violations, and to defend the victims.

  • Monitoring and Documentation:

The organization also focuses on monitoring the methods and approaches used in committing violations.

in an attempt to understand the nature of official oppressive behavior and the targeted categories in all their forms, including women, migrant workers, human rights defenders, and minorities.

Its reports and research emphasize the fundamental rights that are still largely lacking in the country, or are unavailable or inaccessible. Among these rights are the right to life, freedom of expression and assembly, the right to a fair trial, physical and mental safety, freedom of movement, and social and economic rights.

The organization relies on testimonies documented, official and unofficial data, along with applicable laws and court judgments, in its reports and research.

It uses the data, reports, and research it produces as a basis for advocating for victims' rights and documenting and highlighting the reality of human rights in the country, away from the official misinformation propagated by the government.

  • Media and Advocacy:

The European Saudi Organization for Human Rights seeks to enhance cooperation with various United Nations mechanisms concerned with human rights, given the efforts by the Saudi government to cover up facts and evade its commitment to international agreements.

The organization actively participates in sessions of the Human Rights Council, presenting data and reviewing the current situation in Saudi Arabia. Regular reports are submitted to various mechanisms, including UN Special Rapporteurs and specialized committees, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement in conditions in Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, the organization files complaints regarding violations suffered by individuals and victims, with the aim of corresponding with the Saudi government through available legal means and assisting in improving the situations of these individuals and achieving justice.

The European Saudi Organization sends and shares reports, information, monitoring, and documentation with international bodies dealing with the Saudi government. The aim is to raise awareness of violations through private dialogues and to expose facts rather than relying on government claims.

The organization also engages with the media to disseminate stories and facts worldwide, aiming to increase awareness of occurring violations and create a global public opinion supportive of victims' rights.

  • Social Media:

The European Saudi Organization for Human Rights maintains accounts on several social media platforms, including YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
